Often called \u2018living fossils, these salamanders are rare nocturnal creatures that live in healthy rivers. They are characterized by their brown bodies with speckled black spots. The female frog grows nearly twice as large as the male frog and is called the &quot;songstress of clear streams&quot; for its beautiful, deer-like call. Its body is characterized by red dots and a pattern called a parr mark. They live near mountain streams and feed on aquatic insects and small fish. Its regent-like head and beautiful black-and-white pattern are eye-catching.
